Allergies & Intolerance
Dogs, just like humans can be affected by allergies and intolerances, that can be a cause for concern for dog owners. There are three main types of allergy associated with dogs that can cause an allergic reaction in pets:
- Fleas or insects
- Environmental allergens like pollen, dust or moulds
- Food like specific milk proteins, dairy products, wheat and eggs
Obesity & Weight
If the body takes in more energy than it expends then the positive energy balance within the body will turn to fat. If this accumulation of fat continues for a long period of time the body will be store the fat as adipose tissue, once it is over 15% of the dog’s ideal weight for its age, breed and sex it is classed as obese. One in three household pets is now thought to be obese.
Joint Care
There are two major joint issues relating to pets mobility; Hip Dysplasia and Arthritis.
Hip Dysplasia, this relates to the abnormal growth of the hips and is thought to be a multi-factorial condition based on several factors;
- heredity
- nutrition
- trauma
- exercise
